what cpu are you using?

Bushwacker

Haven't decided yet. Either Core Duo E6850 or a high end quad.

Everything I'm reading says that the quad is a waste of money for gaming right now. You build new rigs so fast you'll be two machines from this one before a game that uses multiple processors comes out.

Tell me about modular power supplies. What's that about?

Not sure why the pic isn't uploading it's small and a gif. But you can find one through google.

oh, is something not right since the server move? I'll check on that.

so why is the power supply called "modular"? just a gimmick name?

Bushwacker

Its called modular because it allows you to plug in on the connections you need into ports
on the back of the unit. This way you don't have a bunch extra wires just hanging around
getting in the way. Thats the only benefit to that part of it.

It's about time someone thought to make a power supply that way!

Yeah, the uploading is broken for me too. I havent figured it out yet.

So did you figure it out, if so what was it?

Almuric
02-04-2008, 04:49 PM
I have an idea what the problem is. :P

Anyway, now I'm looking at building a new rig myself. :)

Almuric
02-05-2008, 05:19 AM
The upload problem is a php configuration issue on the server. I havent made the necessary changes yet.

Bushwacker
02-05-2008, 02:17 PM
Cool, so what are you looking at doing?:D
Are you going with new everything or just the major components?

Almuric
02-05-2008, 05:26 PM
I think everything new. I think I'm going to get one of those new 8800GTs that's so cheap but nearly as fast as a GTX.

Bushwacker
02-09-2008, 07:13 PM
about time you built one.

Bushwacker
02-09-2008, 07:28 PM
BTW you must be talking about an 8800GTS right.

GTX Texture fill rate (per second) 36.8 billion Max Mem Bandwidth 86.4 GB/s Mem size 768
GTS Texture fill rate (per second) 24.0 billion Max Mem Bandwidth 64.0 GB/s Mem size 320/640 MB

Nearly as fast? I suppose LOL J/K man.

Almuric
02-10-2008, 05:06 AM
No, the 8800GT. The new card that supports PCI-E 2.0

Bushwacker
02-10-2008, 11:45 AM
ok can you give me a link please cause this is what I'm finding on nvida's website.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8800gt.html
and this one http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce8.html

Almuric
02-10-2008, 12:44 PM
Yeah that's it. They only cost about $259 each with 512MB RAM. Example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121224

Bushwacker
02-10-2008, 01:08 PM
So you will go for 2 then? Good

Almuric
02-10-2008, 04:39 PM
Nah, the benefits of SLI dont justify the cost.

Almuric
02-11-2008, 01:31 PM
looks like uploads are working again!
