We all have our frustrations. We all have things that really grind our gears. This is the place to share 'em. Inspired by the Family Guy move "Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story", this post is meant to be a placeholder for all our frustrations. So yeah, here are some of mine.
You know what really grinds my gears? NWN monster descriptions. Most of them are either descriptions of either what they look like, which is unnecessary since we can see them in PLAIN SIGHT, or a bit about their backround, which doesn't go very deep. Here are two examples I managed to pull out of my sleeve:
Standard Manticore Description:
A manticore is a monster in every sense of the word. It has the head of a vaguely humanoid beast, the body of a lion and the wings of a dragon. The creature's back is set with curved barbs, and its long tail ends in a cluster of vicious spikes, which it can hurl to deadly effect.
As you can see, the description is telling you what it looks like, even when you can plainly see the manticore whether you're looking at him in-game or with the toolset. Also, it gives little to nothing about its personality, etc. Of course, it's not as if everyone's supposed to know everything about the manticore, but we builders need to know this stuff so we make better modules.
CEP Manticore Description:
Manticores are fierce creatures that hunt widely for living flesh. They are cunning and evil with keen, intelligent minds. A manticore can be a deadly enemy or a valuable ally.
This description gives much more backround on the manticore, so we can build its personality a bit in this direction or in the opposite if we ever wanted to make a manticore character. With this info, you could make him have tons of lackeys that would bring him the corpses of his enemies so that he might feed on them knowing that he has the mind to command some.
You know what really grinds my gears? People who go out of their way to make fun of someone because of the way he/she looks, etc. They're called FEELINGS, nimrods, and everyone has them!
You know what really grinds my gears? When I'm playing a multiplayer game, I take one step and I die. Normally I'm not a bad sport about dying, but dying without accomplishing anything is truly frustrating.
Feel free to post any of your frustrations and/or R&R others.
